My doctor told me not to start a diet until I’m completely done working on my book, which doesn’t bother me since I depend so heavily on coffee when I’m writing. Not to mention a whole slew of very unhealthy cheese imitation products. However, she didn’t say anything about working out so yesterday morning I started yoga, and last night went on a bike ride. It didn’t seem like much but damn, my gluts are sore today, and my abs are stiff. I woke up going, “Whoa, it’s too early in the month for cramps… wait, this strange and unusual feeling of uncomfortableness must be from exercise. No wonder I never do it.”

I have a couple of confessions to make.
First: After my last phone call with my lawyer about the court date being moved to November, I’ve lost a great deal of enthusiasm for my trip to New Zealand. I keep having panic attacks that if I leave the country I’ll lose the case to that chick who is suing me (same chick that was driving a BMW without insurance and was sited for reckless driving at the scene by the officer who witnessed the accident). So I’ve found excuse after excuse not to buy my tickets even though I know the price is climbing every week. Each time I sit down and go through the online booking process, I bail during the last stage – something doesn’t feel right. It’s off, like the timing isn’t right and I can’t shake the feeling that whenever I try to force something things don’t go as I expect them to. So I’m waiting. For what? I can’t honestly say, I guess I’m waiting for the timing to feel right. But it totally bums me out since I’ve been looking forward to NZ since March.
Second: I’ve become hugely obsessed with the TV show Supernatural. Again, I can’t logically explain this. I adore the characters, and the situations, the stories and the look.
I think it has something to do with the work I’ve been doing all summer. For those of you who are unfamiliar with my gig, I’ve been traveling all summer collecting ghost stories and folklore. I’ve been primarily interested in collecting the legends and the myths of the paranormal since I find it far more fascinating to hear what people deem worthy of repeating and what they find scary. So perhaps this is why I love the show so much.
Of course I’m sure it has nothing to do with the two hot guys playing the lead or the fact that I’m first and foremost a fiction writer and I’d love to torque their character arcs and push the limits of my writing with the knowledge I’ve gained as a ghost story writer. It has nothing to do with the fact I may be procrastinating on the tail end of my manuscript by watching the episodes and fantasizing about what terrible creatures I could pit the characters against. It couldn’t be those things… could it? Huh. Whatever it is I finally gave in to it the other day and took a break from my normal work to write my first ever piece of fan fiction. I wrote an episode of Supernatural in an attempt to scratch my itch, and – Oh My God! It was so much fun, exactly what I needed to clear my head of some of the more terrifying parts of my summer in the seedy and haunted places of the Pacific Northwest. It was a sort of catharsis for the nights I went to bed queasy and nervous after going into interviews and locations that were – freaky – to say the least. If nothing else I think the show gave me a creative spurt to dump some paranormal baggage from a summer hunting down things I never would have dreamed I would encounter. So for that – Thank you Eric Kripke! I’d love to tell you all more about some of those encounters, but I have to wait until my book is handed off before I’m allowed to talk about it.
For my friends interested in the update for the book – I should be handing off my second draft next week. We’ll see what my editor says. After that I’m going to see about pulling myself back together while I fantasize about writing for a show like Supernatural. Woooo-Whoooo! BTW the season premiere is this Thursday the 28th.for anyone who wants to know what I’m talking about. Hot guys, Ozzy, ACDC and a bunch of demons – what more could a girl want?
