Admiral Fubar gets… Fubared
A couple of weeks ago I was sitting at the coffee shop with my little brother, Admiral Fubar. He’s in his early twenties and not a coffee drinker so with respect to his no-coffee habit I bought him an Amaretto white hot chocolate.
He went on and on about how much he loved it but seemed unable to pronounce “AMA – amar – ammmammm” Throughout the day I made him repeat AMARETTO just so he’d know what to ask for.
As I was on the road somewhere in New Mexico I get a call from Admiral Fubar talking ninety miles a minute. “Hey, Athena. What’s the name of that drink again?”
“Amaretto.”
He replied in a long run-on sentence that goes like this…
“Ohhhhh Ameretto!I went to the coffee shop and kept saying Ama- amma and the barista said Americano? I said sure that must be it then he asked if I wanted one shot or two and I thought that was flavor so I said how about three! I’m so buzzed I can’t believe it I mean I …” He sounded like a Kender.
I couldn’t stop laughing. I have a high tolerance for caffeine being that I drink it so much and I only venture into the triple and quad Americano’s when I really need a boost. I could just imagine Admiral Fubar chasing his tail in circles and talking faster than his brain could think.
I love being the big sister at moments like these. I felt guilty by association – and it made me ridiculously happy. I wasn’t even the one to corrupt him, he did it himself and that just makes it priceless.
