As I was pouring a cup of coffee for a gentleman, Tears for Fears came on over the sound system.  He started grooving a little as I pushed the lever on the pump pot, his slightly balding middle-aged head bobbing to Everybody Wants to Rule the World.

I sighed wistfully, overcome by happy memories and said, “God, I love Tears for Fears.  It takes me way back.” I handed him the cup of coffee and my gaze drifted longingly to the past.

“Really?” He said interested, leaning in to the counter. “Where does it take you?” He sipped tentatively at his too-hot cup.  I could see him sizing me up, wondering if the music took me to a long lost love or perhaps a great traveling adventure.

I looked him in the eye, noting charming crow’s feet around hazel depths and smile lines from years of being amused, and replied “Second grade, actually.”

That was entirely uncalled for!

Second grade. You may pay for that one.

wow.. takes me to someplace else entirely.

and to think, later that day you found yourself watching Jawni bobbing his head to the wrong rhythm… aka, not what you were listening to at the time.

Actually, the tears for fears happened on Friday morning. I’m just behind on my posts due to being so busy.
But it was mighty funny to watch jawni bobbing to Milla Jovovich - that’s what I was listening to.

The best though - was the orchestra last night. Awesome. I slept like a baby. :)

‘Tears for Fears’ takes no one any place special.

(Good burn, though)

Argentum, I beg to differ.
Tears for Fears, takes me to a time when I had a crush on the cutest boy in my class, a time when I first discovered I wasn’t like the other girls who wore pretty dresses and played hopscotch - I played football and baseball.
It takes me back to days on my bike where I’d ride to the canal and spend hours catching water skippers.
It might not take YOU any place special - but it takes me back to when I was a kid and had no judgements or obligations. Popcorn music of my carefree youth :)

Ironically, I was out 2 nights ago playing pool and a Tears for Fears song started playing, Sewing the Seeds of Love. Admittedly, it cannot compete with Shout or Everybody or Head Over Heals but I did experience that moment of feeling taken me back to those chaotically hormonal years of 8th and 9th grade. There were so many highs, and not quite as many lows. Constant ego building and trashing.

This song disappointed me to a moderate degree when it came out because TFF had ostensibly gone “soft” (were they ever “hard”?). I explained this to my pool partner the other night and she proceeded to beat my ass pretty bad.

Hi Jake! Welcome to the BlissQuest!
Yeah, Sewing the Seeds of Love was a softy. I can’t wait for the day that TFF is remixed for the dance floor. Now that - would be awesome!

Thanks, Athena. I’m almost positive I’ve heard a dance remix of that. If I can confirm that you’ll be the first person I tell.
