Yes, it’s that time of year again. National Novel Writing Month. www.nanowrimo.org.
It’s that time of year when I shut down socially (okay, more than normal) and hook up the coffee drip and pound out a bunch of words, some useable, most not so much.
It has become my tradition to experiment during nanowrimo with concepts I normally wouldn’t include in a story or plot lines I want to test out. So I always end up learning a lot.
However, it should be mentioned that after the running mindset of writewritewrite – it gets harder to remember the everyday things like, bathe, eat, move.
Also, it takes a toll on your judgment and good, logical sense. For example, this morning I thought mixing Slimfast powder w/ coffee seemed like the fastest way to squeeze in breakfast & caffeine to get back to work. But as it turns out – not such a great plan. I imagine that taste must be somewhat akin to licking the underside of a pork pen trough.
Anywhoo – we’re on day 4 and so far here’s the tally.
Word Count: 5, 406
Number of character deaths: 0
Number of near-deaths: 2
Number of breakups: 1 in progress
Number of new species: 1
Number of sex scenes: 0
Cups of coffee: 12
Showers: 3
Page count: 22
By the end of the day I should have made today’s word count, but stopping to fix actual food is seriously slowing me down. Apparently, the “human body needs sustenance” problem has yet to be solved by all of our advanced technology.
