Well, the kickstart deadline came and went. Unfortunately, we didn’t fund. As kickstarter is an all or nothing fundraising campaign, no credit cards will be charged. There are no obligations to be met financially.
That being said, the push for publication is still on. It will be a different plan, but it should still involve the release of one novel, Scold of Jays, by the end of the year.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For your pledges and support. It means the world to me. I will still keep trucking along, writing and publishing. Please don’t be sad—we did really well!! I’m both grateful and delighted we made it to the 10% mark.
Whenever kickstarters don’t fund, there’s a barrage of post-kick advice that comes in on what I could have done differently to be successful. More advertising (I spent $500 on ads), more updates (people complained about too many updates last time), pay a service for kickstarter support (10%-15% extra), different rewards, bigger audience following first, etc. etc.
This time around, I intentionally did not inundate my Facebook friends or twitter followers. I tried to keep it to a handful of notifications in my inner circles, then advertise a wider reach to spare my friends and family from yet another request for support. I advertised on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram.
The truth is, there’s not really a magic bullet for kickstarter success. There are many ways to be a successful fundraiser, and many ways that should work, but don’t.
That’s okay, because I already had backup plans. This is not the end, it’s the detour through the scenic route. We’ll still get there, just slower.
Most of the funds for the Scold of Jays publication will be collected through my Patreon account. Join here if you’d like to continue supporting the series, and earning monthly rewards! Tiers involve monthly photos, recipes, project videos and more. I also produce a monthly newsletter and update through Patreon to keep supporters in the loop.
I will also be launching a storefront (Date TBD) with the products shown on the kickstarter. These product sales will help support publishing costs for The Pillars of Dawn. I’ll post an update on the kickstarter when the storefront opens and the product lines are released to the public.
As an extra funding source, I’m also publishing short stories and erotica under my pen name, B. Unbidden. The second installment of The Life Erotic went to the editor last week, and is expected to reach shelves in late May 2018. These stories are adult content and all proceeds go directly to publication costs for The Pillars of Dawn. See the first installment.
Last but not least, if you’d like regular updates on progress, events, workshops I’m teaching, and day to day process, please visit my blog here: www.theblissquest.com/blog
Thank you so much for pledging your support to The Pillars of Dawn series, and my writing adventures. It means a lot that you showed up and pitched in. Thank you. I’m sorry I’m not able to publish a little faster. I hope you’ll stick with me on the journey while I plug away at the series. We’ll get there, one story at a time.
Thank you again!
Have a wonderful summer.
